The Culprit of mindgames - Triguna theory
There are certain factors that determine our character and attitude towards life. Basically all your emotions are their play. They can be called as ‘TRIGUNA’, or the ‘ Three qualities of mind’. They are: SATVA, RAJAS, and TAMAS. An individual can be classified according to which of these three gunas are dominant.
Satva is the purest form of Mind where a person possesses only healthy desires. He always wants to progress and look forward to peace and harmony in nature.
Tamas is the exact opposite of Satva, as the name suggest ,Tamas, in Sanskrit means darkness, that is, an individual who possesses tamasik properties are stagnant, Pessimistic and timid.
Rajas is more neutral quality that dictate action for its own sake. they are full of pride, confusion, anger, desiring for luxurious living, impatient, impulsive etc. Just like Tridoshas, all the Trigunas are also present in a person in certain percentage, that classify him under the category of Guna with highest scores. All the three impulses are necessary for a mind. for example you are walking along side of the road and you see a gentleman’s wallet with good amount of money falling down from his pocket. You are either tempted to take the wallet from the ground and return to the man or you tend to ignore it. This is the Satva and Tamas acting upon your respectively. These Satva and Tamas conflict, with the Rajas acting as the spur, urging you to choose between the two. If your Rajasic portions are away higher than the other, you may even pick up the wallet and never return it to that man. This is how these qualities act on us, thus determining in our character. The Satvik people have naturally healthy mind and positive attitude towards life. They avoid anything that build up toxins in the mind.
Toxins can build up in The Mind by:
Negative emotions such as anger, fear, greed, Pride, ego etc
Psychological stress such as family problems, work stress, death of beloved, grief, mental inertia.
Unwholesome surroundings and people, violence, theft.
When we live in a material world, it is obvious that we will get exposed to some of the other kind of situations that will lead to building of toxins in our mind. So it is the role of a good physician or Guru to warn you against exposure and lead you to holistic living.
